Cheers :-)

It's that time of year again. Many of you might be getting ready for this weekend's Halloween parties and celebrations. I know that I am having fun creating a costume for a special party that I am going to as well.

This got me thinking...Do Witches dress up for Halloween?

I have had so many emails from customers asking where they can buy my new Chefs calendar. So, I had decided to create one and sell one for 2012 in my Zazzle Store. This is a great holiday gift for yourself or for the chef in your life!

I wanted to show my hand sketch to line work to color and pattern that I created in Adobe Illustrator. I saved the three stage out as jpegs, brought each image into a Photoshop layered file and then created a simple gif animation to show the progress. Fun!

What a sad day. After hearing the news about Steve Jobs passing, I thought about all his wonderful inventions that have changed my life and allow me to create. Here's a painting I did this evening on my Ipad. A little somber in mood, but that was the type of day it was.

Here is some fun still life artwork and even a portrait of my dog, Sara that  I painted on my Ipad using the Art Studio app. This program works similar to Photoshop as it has many art tools and Layers (yes, layers!). It only allows for five layers maximum, so you have to be somewhat strategic in planning your painting. I find my self creating my background on the bottom layer and putting other elements on the middle layers and save the top layers for shadows and highlights. If you have an Ipad, I highly recommend trying this app for yourself.

One of my favorite themes to illustrate is food art, especially chocolate art! I have a wonderful client that has licensed my art for their chocolate calendar every year. I am thankful that they value artists creating original artwork for them and don't resort to using cheap chocolate clip art, as some companies do. I always put my heart into my illustrations. When I illustrate a chocolate image, I will visit a local bakery or specialty store to buy some yummy goodies for reference. I will take some bites and savor the flavors of the chocolate, so that I can interpret those flavors with color, shadows and highlights into the painting.

Here is one of my favorite illustrations of a chocolate cupcake
from sketch to final art.
